Home / Houseplants That Thrive in Winter and Low-Light – Virtually Impossible to Kill
Houseplants that love winter and low light conditions – they 'can't be killed'
Some houseplants require minimal upkeep, making them ideal for those who want greenery without the hassle. Experts at Stelrard have identified several hardy plants that are “virtually impossible” to kill and shared tips for their care.
Experts note, “While money doesn't literally grow on trees, the money tree is said to bring good fortune to its owner.” This resilient plant requires weekly watering and should be placed in a spot with direct or partial sunlight. It also needs space to grow, and if it requires repotting, spring is the optimal time for this.
For a low-maintenance but visually striking houseplant, the peace lily is a top recommendation. “It's one of the easiest plants to care for, thriving in bright, indirect sunlight but tolerating lower light conditions as well,” the experts say. The peace lily produces a lovely white flower that can last for weeks, and with proper care, may continue to bloom beyond spring. To keep it healthy, use filtered water if possible, as it can be sensitive to tap water.
According to the specialists, the spider plant is one of the most adaptable and effortless houseplants to maintain. “You could almost forget about this plant, and it will still flourish in your home,” they explain. However, cat owners should be cautious, as spider plants have mild hallucinogenic properties that can be addictive to felines. Caring for this plant is simple: avoid overwatering, and let the soil dry out between waterings.
A favorite for home decor, the devil's ivy, also known as pothos, is another highly adaptable plant. Experts recommend, “It’s versatile and can thrive indoors or even in a shaded outdoor area. All it needs is some indirect sunlight and occasional watering when the soil begins to dry out.”
Other hardy, low-maintenance houseplants include aloe vera, corn plants, panda plants, and the Chinese evergreen, each providing easy care and resilience in less-than-ideal growing conditions.
